Infection Control

Infection Control in healthcare settings including Pharmacies and Care Homes is becoming increasingly important with a much higher level of surveillance and monitoring for infection causing bacterial such as MRSA and C-diff. The formation of the (CQC) Care Quality Commission in April 2009 who are the independent regulator for health and social care in England highlight the increased inspection and enforcement on establishments in this area. One of the key elements within the inspection of care establishments will be the attention to infection control procedures.

The major factor in infection control is bacteria that is passed through hand contact and handling of equipment and products in the healthcare setting. Therefore there is a need for designing infection control into products in order to either make them more hygienic or require less handling.
